About Niki Davies

An education specialist, Niki Davies understands how to appeal to children through her music. She is an author and composer with a national reputation for producing children's musicals, nativity musicals and children's songbooks Her work has enjoyed excellent reviews on BBC Schools Radio and BBC TV.Niki Davies' musical career spans a lifetime of work both in the field of music and education and she is now one of Britain's top authors and composers of childrens musicals, nativity musicals and childrens songbooks.

Niki started on her musical path while still very small, learning to read music before she could read words. Her mother, a musician and educationalist herself, taught Niki to play the piano and encouraged her to dance and move to a variety of musical genre. This saw the beginnings of Niki's belief that children can be positively influenced by music and movement at an early age.

She began writing early and by the age of thirteen had composed her first 'formal' piece – a song with full piano accompaniment. She continued to produce her own music and taught herself to play the guitar; a skill and passion she continues to this day. At eighteen Niki relocated to the north of England to study Music and Education in Liverpool.

After graduating with honours Niki became a teacher, initially in secondary schools, progressing to primary and infant education. The following twenty years spent in front-line education gave her a rich and invaluable store of knowledge and experience of the educational needs of young children. Her keen insight into their varying and particular requirements is a direct result of her time spent as a school teacher.

Niki has now spent the last twenty years as a full time writer, musician and composer, drawing on her wealth of knowledge and experience, and applying it in the particular field of children's music and education.

As well as being the author of many best selling song books and musicals Niki has also published highly successful combination Music/Literacy and Music/Numeracy packages, designed for specialist and non-specialist teachers alike. Both works are directly connected to the National Numeracy and Literacy Strategy framework for teachers, and now form an integral part of the learning process for young children right across the UK. She has also written for BBC Schools Radio and Television.

She continues to write extensively for a number of Britain's top publishing companies in addition to her commissioned work for educational organisations and early learning associations.
